Common questions

How do I take a screenshot?

Press ⌃⇧R / Ctrl+Shift+R or pick Capture area, Capture active window or Capture screen in the tray menu. Drag to select an area: the picture opens in the editor right away.

The shortcut does nothing on macOS

macOS lets Snip Marker capture the screen only after you allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording. Turn Snip Marker on there; macOS will ask to quit and reopen the app, agree to that. If the switch is already on but capture still fails, remove Snip Marker from the list with the minus button and add it again.

How do I change the shortcut?

Settings → Keyboard shortcuts. Press the new combination; it must include at least one of ⌘, ⌥ or ⌃ (Ctrl, Alt or Win on Windows) so that it does not clash with typing.

Where are my screenshots saved?

Nowhere automatically. When you finish, you choose: copy to the clipboard, save to a file where you want it, or send to an app. The app keeps no history of screenshots.

Does the app send anything anywhere?

No. The only network request is the update check: one GET of a static file on this site, without identifiers. Screenshots leave your computer only when you copy, save or send them yourself.
